Grand Canyon University is currently seeking a Utility Resources Specialist to develop and execute a strategic utility program to positively impact the utilization of energy and related resources for the university. The position is responsible for creating a utilization plan for all designated resource areas and monitoring the execution of the agreed upon utilization (the areas include electricity, natural gas and other fuels, water/sewer and solid waste and recycling).

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes guidelines and operating programs to meet energy saving/resource utilization goals
  • Develops and manages the University’s utility management program and utility tracking database
  • Analyzes and recommends, operational use of utilities to improve operating efficiency
  • Coordinates and oversees vendors performing utility repairs and improvements
  • Researches and analyzes use of utilities; conducts utility audits and makes recommendations 
  • Reviews and provides input on HVAC, lighting and other building systems being considered on facility projects or provide input on contractual support activities (capital projects) related to energy management or resource utilization and the purchase of any products that affect resource utilization.
  • Identifies potential funding sources for proposed projects and pursues available federal and state grant funding opportunities and/or utility incentive programs
  • Conducts life cycle cost analyses, return on investment and other financial reviews in developing and presenting business cases for change in operating practices
  • Researches best practices for energy conservation; promotes the College's energy conservation programs to both internal and external constituents
  • Coordinate usage of facilities and insure proper space utilization consistent with energy conservation.
  • Implement weekday, weekend, holiday, and summer shutdown checklists and night setback programs for every building.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in the fields of Engineering, Business Administration, Resource Management required.
  • Experience which demonstrates understanding of meeting and applying principles of customer service, complex planning of resources and meeting complex customer requirements required.
  • Project planning experience and/or project management certification preferred.
  • Work experience in maintenance or facilities operations preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Strong mathematical ability to analyze trends and utilization
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Basic understanding of regulatory guidelines and ability to learn and interpret all federal, state, and local codes and ordinances pertinent to facilities planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to work with sensitive, con?dential information discreetly, ethically, and in accordance with university policies and applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Demonstrates an ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, with varied groups and to work effectively with university students, faculty, and staff, as well as with professionals, governmental entities, community groups, and the general public.
  • Act collaboratively to solve problems and resolve spontaneous and unique situations with professionalism and service orientation.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
