Job Description

Grand Canyon University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences is currently seeking a Counseling Program Manager.

The Program Manager is responsible for day-to-day operational management of the CHSS college. Position often requires the coordination of work within the unit and/or across a number of administrative/academic units. Although primarily a non-supervisory activity, it may require that the Program Manager supervise support staff. Program Managers often function quite independently and focus on policy and process implementation (they may have role in crafting policies for approval). This position will be based on our Main Campus in Phoenix, AZ.


  • Assist in the process of obtaining accreditation for the master’s level counseling program.
  • Manages administrative aspects related to maintaining the master’s level substance abuse counseling program accreditation. 
  • Works directly with Compliance to ensure alignment of course curriculum and practices with state board specific rules for counseling programs.
  • Manage aspects related to the Counseling Correction Action Plan, and other systems in place within the counseling programs.
  • Manages administrative aspects related to practicum/internship management system.
  • Manages administrative aspects of the practicum/internship experience.
  • Manages administrative aspects related of the national counseling examination process.
  • Support online faculty teaching in the counseling programs.
  • Assists in faculty course approvals.
  • Monitors counseling curricula revisions and development.
  • Assists in the process of identifying faculty to teach in the program.
  • Supports adjunct and cohort faculty, and any associated administration support (i.e.: student worker).
  • Works closely with Student Services Counselors (SSCs) on course transfer approvals and grade appeals.
  • Develops internal and external community relationships that promote and support the counseling programs, college, and university.
  • Defines and interprets policies of college in accordance to accrediting standards and University vision/mission.
  • Addresses and resolves all counseling student issues.
  • Identifies areas of growth, developing external partnerships, and recruitment of students.
  • Collaborates closely with leadership from other departments within the college to ensure that operational consistency and interdisciplinary opportunities are maximized.
  • Maintains focus on growth opportunities and trends in the counseling field.
  • Leads in the development of an engaging campus community and strong collegiate environment.
  • Coaching responsibilities for adjunct faculty, instructional assistants, and student workers.
  • Organizes quarterly ground and webcast meetings with adjunct and cohort faculty.
  • Organizes events related to promoting the counseling program and career (workshops, behavioral health campaigns, continue education unit seminars, etc.).
  • Assist in tasks as assigned. 


  • Master’s degree in Professional Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Behavioral Health, and/or Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Dependent or independent licensed as a professional or mental health counselor, or marriage and family therapist.
  • 2 or more years of post-secondary academic experience in any capacity. 
  • 3 year or more in an administrative/managerial capacity managing programs and staff in a behavioral health community based agency or setting.
  • Experience in program evaluation and program compliance.   
  • Knowledge of Internet software and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge and experience of academic platform and related tools/software.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of mangers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.


  • Understanding of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) Standards. 
  • Understanding professional ethical codes in particular the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and the National Board for Certified Counselors educational standards.
