PRIMARY FUNCTIONS  

 

  

 

Parent Educator will conduct in-home educational services and provide information and support to assist parents in helping their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. The Phoenix South Parent Educator position will provide home visitation services to the areas of Phoenix South in Maricopa County. Strong, candidates, who reside in the South Phoenix community, and/or have experience supporting families within the subcultures in the South Phoenix region is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated (often in the field).

  • Knowledgeable about community resources, social services agency and provider systems.

  • Demonstrate ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills. 
  •  
  • Must have access to safe, reliable transportation with appropriate Arizona driver's license and automobile insurance. Mileage reimbursement offered.

  • Supervised experience working with diverse populations of infants, young children and their parents. 
  •  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (e.g., nonjudgmental, objective, reflective, empathetic, patient, tactful).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  

 
     
  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education or related field of study. 
  •  
  • Experience working with diverse populations of infants, young children and their parents. 
  •  
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  •  
  • Knowledgeable about community resources, social services agency and provider systems. 
  •  
  • Must have access to safe, reliable transportation with appropriate Arizona driver's license, registration and automobile insurance. Mileage reimbursement offered. 
  •  
  • Have the ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card. 
  •  
  • Must pass background screening prior to start. 
  •  
  • Bilingual preferred. 
  •  
  • Must be available to work Evenings and Weekends.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES 

 

  

 
     
  • Must attend the required 5 day Parents as Teachers certification training and become certified as a PAT Parent Educator. 
  •  
  • Will provide personal instruction to parents by implementing the curriculum provided by the National Parents as Teachers (PAT) center. 
  •  
  • Must demonstrate appropriate educational activities; deliver research based printed materials to parents regarding child development and related parenting issues. 
  •  
  • Must conduct developmental, hearing and vision screenings with children. 
  •  
  • Prepare and submit timely documentation and reports, maintain client records in accordance to professional standards and funder requirements. 
  •  
  • Must have the ability to observe and document parent and child interactions both positive and negative without bias. 
  •  
  • Maintain accurate and timely written reports, summaries and logs.

  • Adhere to all CPLC Parenting Arizona policies and procedures. 
  •  
  • Demonstrate respect for clients in a non-judgmental manner and will respect client's rights to privacy and confidentially. 
  •  
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor and/or program manager.

CONTINUOUS EDUCATION 

 

It is expected to participate in continuous learning, competency building and maintenance of competency skills. A minimum of 20 hours per Fiscal Year including but not limited to Relias Learning and Conference. 

 

  

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS 

 

Working in the field/community setting. 

 

  

 

ACCOUNTABILITY 

 

Reports to and is supervised directly by the Parent Aide Program Supervisor. Employee is also accountable for understanding and complying with CPLC policies and procedures.
